Rosalía’s Complete “MOTOMAMI” TikTok Performance
Rosalía’s eclectic and experimental new album MOTOMAMI is a thought-provoking, out-of-the-box concept from start to finish – not just in terms of the music, but also in the way she presented it. In partnership with TikTokthe Spanish singer-songwriter has released an exclusive performance via the app’s live streaming feature. You can finally watch it on his Youtube.
“In no time, you will have the performance of Motomami‘s Tiktok live on my Youtubeeeeee channel,” she announced in a Twitter post.
At the start of the performance, an interesting public announcement appears: “This piece was created to be viewed from a mobile device. Content changes orientation, so it is recommended to lock screen orientation in settings and hold the device with two hands. It’s interesting how TikTok is currently shaping the way we consume entertainment through modern technology. Throughout the groundbreaking performance, we see the camera treated as the production tool itself, using the screenshot camera effect as a way to change frames and social media effects such as l “duo” frame effect from TikTok to feature Tokischa on “LA COMBI VERSACE”.
The show begins by showing Rosalía in the MOTOMAMI brand motorcycle helmet singing “SAOKO” with a red mechanical bull in the background (will she ride it later during “HENTAI? »). The camera lens plays with POV features: showing the POV camera also in a helmet then switch to a selfie-type camera with which Rosalía sings throughout the 28-minute performance. In another scene, she sings a snippet of “CANDY” in a minimalist navy room, keeping her cowboy boots on to follow the album’s theme. Other highlights include her dancers singing and doing the hand-moving dance to her catchy “CHICKEN TERIYAKI,” as well as the slowdown in “HENTAI” where Rosalía is covered in sand. A special shout out goes to the playful “BIZCOCHITO”, which instantly uplifts your mood with a cheerful sung dance.
During a short break, the singer speaks directly to the camera, showing a more intimate side of her, breaking the fourth wall and making us feel like we’re in conversation with her. We also see the team celebrating an anniversary as they continue to hold the camera phone, but then return to the second half of the performance.
Overall, the TikTok performance is an exciting new way to thoroughly capture a musical concept in the age of digital apps.
