BLACKPINK’s Lisa talks about Rosalía and making Spanish culture “her own”
You’re probably living under a rock if you haven’t heard of K-pop girl group BLACKPINK. From being the first K-pop group to perform at Coachella to land Rolling Stone’s cover this month, their international presence and fanbase are unquestionable. In the interview with the publication, the girls showed their ties to the Spanish-speaking community by talking about none other than Rosalía.
During the interview with Rolling Stone, BLACKPINK member Lisa talked about her curiosity about making traditional Thai music. This happened while wondering if she was only good at one genre (hip-hop). As an example, she referred to the Spanish pop artist Rosalía. She mentioned that she liked the way the “HENTAI” the singer would highlight it spanish culturemaking it his own.
“Rosalía is so cool. She has her own Spanish culture, which is inside of her, which influences her music,” Lisa told the magazine. “I’m curious to know how far I can develop what I do. Music-wise, dance-wise, I feel like I still have to learn more.
Well, she won’t know until she tries! Imagine Lisa’s rap-infused traditional Thai music? Also, imagine what a collaboration between Lisa and Rosalía would look like? Perhaps a cross between modern and traditional music that pays homage to both the Thai culture of Lisa and the modern flamenco of Rosalía?
What we do know is that the two singers respect each other. During the MOTOMAMI promo, Rosalía gave Lisa a copy of his album. Not only that, however, she also said Radio Disney Mexico that she was a fan, praising the K-pop star saying she really loves her and that she “dances so well.” During the same conversation, Rosalía says that “fate” will decide if there is a future collaboration between the two.
Well, may “fate” be in our favor!
